CEREC crowns offer an excellent alternative to traditional porcelain crowns. Your family dentist in Midland Park, NJ, Dr. Carrie Polster, dental crownsshares a few advantages that make the crowns a good choice for most people.

What are CEREC crowns?

Unlike porcelain crowns, CEREC crowns are actually made in our Midland Park office. We'll make a digital impression of your mouth and send it to our computer. In a matter of seconds, the impression will be transformed into a 3D image, thanks to CAD/CAM technology. The technology allows us to create a digital representation of your crown before sending it to our milling machine. The milling machine functions as a crown "printer" and shapes your crown by removing layers from a small block of resin or ceramic in an hour or less.

What advantages do CEREC crowns provide?

CEREC crowns offer a few benefits that make them a particularly attractive choice, including:

  • No Waiting for a Permanent Crown: Getting a crown used to require two dental appointments. The first appointment involved reducing the size of your tooth and making an impression of your mouth to be sent to a dental laboratory. About two weeks later, you returned to your family dentist in Midland Park and received your permanent crown. The CEREC process eliminates the need for the dental laboratory. At the end of your one and only visit, you'll leave with your brand new permanent crown.
  • Temporary Crowns Are Unnecessary: In the past, you wore a temporary crown while you waited for your second crown appointment. The crown protected your prepared tooth and also allowed you to chew normally, as long as you avoided tough or sticky foods. If you forgot and enjoyed a strip steak or took a bite of a caramel, your temporary crown could have loosened or broken. Thanks to the CEREC one-visit process, temporary crowns are no longer needed.
  • Uncomfortable Impressions Are a Thing of the Past: The CEREC system uses digital impressions, rather than putty-based impressions that can make you gag. The scanner passes over your mouth in seconds and produces a clear digital impression of your teeth.
  • Quick Do-Overs: Although your new crown will probably fit you perfectly, problems can occasionally occur with crowns, whether they're made from porcelain, ceramic or resin. If there is an issue, you won't have to wait another two weeks for a new crown. It can be produced in our office while you wait.

One-visit CEREC crowns offer the perfect solution for busy people. Call your family dentist in Midland Park, NJ, Dr. Polster, at (201) 444-5675 to schedule your appointment.

It's no secret that gaps in your smile can affect your confidence, self-esteem, and quality of life. Invest in a New and Improved Smile with Dental Implants in Midland Park, NJ

In addition to ruining your smile, tooth loss can also affect your oral health and lead to additional dental and general health complications in the future. Dental implants address both the cosmetic and oral health issues that develop as a result of tooth loss. Rather than just replacing the cosmetic and functional portion of a missing tooth (the crown), implants are surgically placed in the socket of the missing tooth to replace the root. The crown is attached to the implant, which looks, functions, and feels just like a natural tooth. Implants have a very high success rate and offer one of the most permanent solutions for tooth loss.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

In addition to helping to secure your new crown in place for a natural and comfortable fit, implants also help to preserve healthy bone tissue in your gums, which begins to erode as soon as a tooth falls out. Implants require diligent oral hygiene and follow up check ups and treatment with your dentist, and patients must be in good general health. But once in place, caring for your implants is just like caring for your natural teeth.

Dental implants could end up being the ideal solution for replacing your missing teeth.dental implants

Are you missing one or more teeth? Looking for a way to finally say goodbye to that embarrassing gap? Then it’s time you turned to our Midland Park, NJ, family dentist Dr. Carrie Polster to find out how dental implants could benefit your oral health and finally fill that gap.

There are certain factors that will determine your candidacy for getting dental implants in Midland Park. While most healthy adults who are missing teeth will discover that dental implants are right for them, here are some factors that will have to be taken into consideration to determine whether dental implants are the best course of action:

Your Health

Since getting dental implants entails surgery, our Midland Park general dentist will want to make sure that you are healthy enough for this procedure. A thorough physical examination will help us pinpoint any ongoing issues like cavities or gum disease that need to be treated or managed prior to getting dental implants.

Jawbone Deterioration

It’s pretty common for those dealing with tooth loss to also have some degree of bone loss. If you’ve waited a long time to seek treatment for your missing tooth then you may have rather significant bone loss. If the bone isn’t dense or strong enough to support your implant, a procedure known as bone grafting may be necessary to rebuild the jawbone so it’s strong enough to support an implant.

Your Lifestyle

Smoking can greatly reduce your implant’s success rate, so it’s important that you consider quitting altogether before getting dental implants. If you are a smoker, let us know during your consultation phase so that we determine whether or not you are right for implants.

Your Commitment

While dental implants do not need special treatment, it is still important that you are maintaining good oral health to prevent implant failure, infections and other problems. This means brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily. You should also continue to visit Dr. Polster regularly so she can continue to monitor the health of your implant.

Are you ready to find out if dental implants are right for you? If so, the next step is to pick up your phone and call our Midland Park, NJ, dental office to schedule your consultation. We would be happy to help you decide on the best treatment option for giving you the smile you’ve always wanted.

Dental restorations can help you retain your smile’s natural appearance while repairing and replacing damaged, compromised, or crownsmissing teeth. However, porcelain restorations often mean long wait times, multiple dental visits and, often, even laboratory fees. Luckily, there is a way around all of these annoying problems with CEREC with the help of your family dentist. Learn all about CEREC and what it can do for you with Dr. Carrie Polster in Midland Park, NJ.

What is CEREC?
CEREC is a new and high-tech way of creating porcelain dental restorations like bridges, crowns, onlays, inlays and veneers. Traditionally, a restoration would require the help of a physical impression of the mouth to provide a basis for their design and a dental laboratory to create the actual restoration. The laboratory required several weeks for the creation of the restoration, tacking on long wait times and an extra dental visit to boot.

CEREC eliminates these steps and requires only that the patient has an extra hour or so to spare while they wait for their restoration to be created right in their dentist’s office. Patients no longer need to worry about taking an extra day off of work or wearing a temporary restoration in the meantime.

How does CEREC work?
CEREC’s machine uses a special wand to take CAD/CAM digital impressions of your mouth, then sends them to your dentist’s computer. Your dentist then uses specialized software to design the restoration. The finished design is then sent to the CEREC machine where it carves the final restoration from a block of ceramic. Your dentist will then use color-matching techniques to match the restoration to your natural teeth before permanently placing it.

CEREC Dental Restorations in Midland Park, NJ
If your dentist recommends that you undergo a procedure to place a porcelain dental restoration, you are a candidate for CEREC restorations. However, dentists need a healthy tooth on which to place the restoration, meaning you should be in good dental health with a strong at-home oral care routine to keep your restoration healthy.
